to stay. Many negative events have taken place as a result of problems related to illegal immigration. For example, when Amadou Diallo was shot 41 times by New York
City Police, it was likely because he feared the immigration department. Of course, he did not realize his life was in danger when he did not stop for police. He
merely was trying to run from the immigration department officials. That is an unusual incident. Yet, more often than not, illegal aliens have trouble in the United States in terms
of health care and education. They want to live well, but they are not in the country legally. While some believe that these people should be given a break, others
see them as simply being in the country illegally, gleaning benefits while contributing little. The fact is, illegal immigrants contribute a great deal to the United States economy. In respect
to illegal immigration, it has been recommended that in order to eliminate the problem, a worker registry be created and borders be tightened (Amselle, 1995). Other recommendations include having illegals
receive only emergency services from the government (Amselle, 1995). Under the new plan, criminals would be deported too (Amselle, 1995). And while illegal aliens should be made to almost appear
indivisible, there are recommendations for legal immigrants as well. It has been suggested that the number of immigrants allowed into the United States be cut down somewhat (Amselle, 1995). It
is recommended that skills based admissions be considered, and only highly skilled immigrants be admitted (Amselle, 1995). The commission making these recommendations opposes a guest worker program and emphasized assimilation
