is attributable to the US jobs that they find. These jobs are not only more numerous but also more lucrative than the jobs that they might find in their
country of origin. On the one hand, illegal immigrants have formed the backbone of US economy working in agriculture, factories, childcare, and other workplace arenas. From a socially
responsible perspective we tend to feel obligated to these people (Newton, 2008). When we consider illegal immigration more in depth, however, we realize that social responsibility extends not just
to the aliens themselves but to American workers and citizens as well. The harsh reality is that they socially responsible way to deal with illegal aliens is to expel
them from this country. This is justified not just by the fact that they have broken the law to get here but also by the fact that they
are taking jobs and other resources that should, in fact, be reserved for US citizens. It is difficult to fully appreciate the problem presented by illegal aliens in
the workplace without first getting an idea of how many illegal aliens that we are talking about. That number, however, is somewhat illusive. What we do know is
that some 33.5 million residing in our country in 2003 were born elsewhere (Larsen, 2004). This number constitutes a shocking 11.7 percent of the total U.S. population (Larsen, 2004).
