Lincoln had lived perhaps Reconstruction would have turned out differently. This paper will give an example of what could have been had Lincoln been the President of the United
States during the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. AFTER THE WAR It was not always easy being a black cotton farmer in the Deep South, inasmuch as there
were tremendous political, economic, social, and legal changes that occurred between the years of 1865 and 1877. These changes, including the Reconstruction, began around the time of the Civil
War and only continued to escalate after it had ended. Indeed, there were quite a few conflicts that came out of -- as well as were solved by
-- the war, but some of the most instrumental had to do with how blacks were treated by the whites. This could have all played out differently had Abraham
Lincoln still been the President. It can be argued that cotton was the "more profitable and better suited" (Kirkendale PG, 2002) crop at that time, which is why there were
many blacks who took to farming it. This new crop turned out to be a gold mine in that with the help of special equipment, its production could barely
hold up to the demand. Each time the demand grew so did the number of black farmers who toiled the land. Cotton was not the only commodity to
become a profitable venture, as slavery soon turned a tidy profit from the sheer numbers of people who were recruited to farm the cotton. It was likely that Abraham
Lincoln would have arranged a way that cotton farmers could have had their own plots of land or could have paid employees to help them. As the war raged on,
