to name but a few characteristics. This paper explores some 30 hate group websites, divided into five categories, to observe existing trends directly. The first group to be studied are
the white nationalists, which includes by association groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and the neo-confederates. These groups tend to be focused upon the dissemination of information, with an
emphasis on the patriotic value of adopting a stance opposed to the propagation of other races. Often, this appeal is given some revisionist historical basis as well. One organization, the
Council of Conservative Citizens orients itself with the political Tea Party movement, advertising upcoming rallies, and pushing for recruitment through prominent displays of "why you should join"-style information. In advancing
their agenda, they harp on political issues such as immigration, and engage in the repetition of stereotypes to create a divisive sense of the other; revisionist history is used to
discredit the President and all black people, and a general patriotic gloss is applied to everything, with a liberal helping of American flags and imagery. Like most white nationalist sites,
the emphasis is on the enumeration of "social problems" stemming from minority races, and a massive FAQ is present. Other sites provide similar perspectives. For instance, the site of the
True Invisible Empire of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan places an emphasis on recruiting through the dissemination of information via FAQs, articles on social problems, and prominently displayed
information packets to drive participation. The organization also engages in historical revisionism through holocaust denial in order to justify its claims of racial superiority. This is similar to tactics used
