systems relevant to the various departments. The first information system to be considered is the finance and accounting systems. Each of the operating entities have their own finance and accounting
system, in turn this is connected to head office in San Jose where the input from the different systems is consolidated at a corporate level. The finance and accounting system
is comprehensive, and includes a wide range of functions, including full accounting functions, incorporating the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting functions as well as systems which
supports sales and purchase history, procurement, invoicing and shipping, payroll, with the system at head office also supporting barcode reading, EDI and EDSS. However, there are some problems with the
system, although the independent at external facilities provide information which is input into the system in San Jose, there are some compatibility issues. The office in Michigan had acquired software
developed by a vendor, but management of the system is now complicated as the vendor is no longer in existence the system is programmed in C . The Georgia facility
also purchased software developed by vendor, but utilised a different vendor, with the system based on a UNIX operating system. Therefore, while this system does meet most of the current
needs, it is facilitated by supplementing the automated data transfer with the sending of paper records which require manual input. The information technology system provides for a marketing information system.
