21 ERP project was meant for the company to become more efficient and in so doing, to regain its market share. The Boeing Dreamliner project inherently incorporated new information technology both in terms of the design of the aircraft and in communicating and working with hundreds of suppliers across the globe. In fact, the airplane itself was designed by an international team of aerospace companies (Pike, 2005). One of the information technology advances in this aircraft is its ability to self-monitor its systems and report these data to ground-based computers (Pike, 2005). New technology is being created and designed specifically for this aircraft. The Dreamliner will result in Boeing becoming even more successful in this very competitive industry. The aircraft has consistently been referred to as being both evolutionary and revolutionary, which has to do with its design, the materials to be used, the construction, the global supply chain, and the information technology in the aircraft, among other things. Boeing is in direct competition with Airbus, however, in terms of pre-sales, the market looks good for Boeing. As these new processes and new technologies are put into use in a mass marketing scale, the bugs will be worked out. This will lead to more efficient operations for this aircraft and perhaps others Boeing already makes or new models in the future. Thus, this massive project will result in more revenue and decreased costs for the company. The aircraft (or aerospace) industry is riddled with regulations and laws as well as with proven effective procedures. Although the major supervising agency is the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there are other agencies that play a role in governing this industry, including the U.S. Congress itself.
