value of an IT infrastructure (or even what it is), its falling on the "worker" to explain to his/her manager what information technology is about, so he/she can get the
appropriate support. In its most basic form, information technology infrastructure is the physical hardware thats used to connect the computers and
users (TechTarget, 2008). The infrastructure is the roadway on which data is carried, processed and then delivered to the end user (who, more often than not, is a computer person).
An IT infrastructure can include the transmission media (such as telephone or cable lines), routers, repeaters and aggregators; in other words, the
hardware that controls transmission paths and data (TechTarget, 2008). Infrastructure also includes software used to receive, send and manage signals and
data sent across the transmission media (TechTarget, 2008). A sound infrastructure system is critical to an organization, especially one that requires
a lot of data to be moved between two or more different points. A well-run infrastructure system ensures that information makes it in one piece from point A to point
B, and in a timely fashion. If some infrastructure components wear out or break, information wont get to its source, which could cost time and money.
Three components of an IT infrastructure are cables and wires, software and standards. Lets take these one at a time.
Cables and wires are fairly self-explanatory - they connect the computers and other information storage centers to one another (and to some form of power, typically electricity). These
