other language? List and discuss three items. what is significant about it ActiveX and Java applets are similar in their applications in
that each is a set of instructions imparting some measure of control to the way that applications either use or share information. Both are Web-based and provide many of
the same results, but each also has distinctive characteristics. This is a control that can be "automatically downloaded and executed by a Web
browser" (ActiveX control, 2003). The ActiveX control can be written in several languages, including Java. It behaves much in the same way as a Java applet, though ActiveX
controls have full access to operating systems (Windows only) that Java does not. This ability gives ActiveX more power than the Java applet, which can increase its usefulness but
also increases the risk that the control could damage data or software (ActiveX control, 2003). An applet is a program executed from within
another application and cannot directly be executed from the operating system (Applet, 2003). The Java applet is a product of Sun Microsystems; JavaBeans is a specification defining how Java
objects will interact (JavaBeans, 2003). Unlike the ActiveX control that can be written in any language, the Java applet can be written only in Java.
Aside from the language difference, ActiveX and Java applets differ in how they can operate. The Java applet is restricted to the Java language but can
run on any platform (JavaBeans, 2003). For its part, the ActiveX control can be written in any programming language, but can be executed only on a Windows platform. 3.b. How
