network-related activities (McKay, 2008). Some employers like their IT managers to have a bachelors degree - while others go one step further, insisting the managers have an MBA (with technology
as one of the core components) (McKay, 2008). But why business degrees? In addition to getting systems to work, an IT managers job is, well, to manage. This means managing
everything from budgets to people. In fact, a typical day for an IT manager will include tasks such as talking to top management about business and technical goals, creating detailed
plans to help an organization achieve its goals through a steady IT system, directing work from its staff, overseeing and evaluating innovative technologies to determine how they can best help
the organization and developing requirements, budgets and schedules for his/her companys information technology implementation and development (McKay, 2008). But there is also
the "technology" aspect of this job - employers like to see their IT managers have specific software and technology experience, as well as a background as either a consultant or
