To answer this question, we must first have an idea of what, exactly, communication apprehension actually is. First of all, almost everyone
has some nervousness when it comes to getting up in front of a group of people and making a presentation - there are always fears on the persons part that
he/she will not be up to the task of doing so and will look foolish as a result. However, when that fear
goes beyond the simple minor nervousness into a situation in which huge physiological changes occur, this is communication apprehension. Most people can tell if they suffer from communication apprehension through
physical symptoms, namely moist palms, butterflies in the stomach, fast heartbeat and general nervousness (Hale, 2002). These are the symptoms involved with normal communication apprehension. Furthermore, people with high communication
apprehension suffer from increased nausea, memory loss and shortness of breath (Hale, 2002). First introduced by J.C. McCroskey, experts note that there
are many theories of causes related to communication apprehension. One such theory is that it is genetically inherited. Another is home environmental factors (such as parent-child interaction) can also determine
the degree of apprehension in an adult (Hale, 2002). Then there are the problems in that people with communication apprehension dont know
how to talk with others (or rather, they perceive that they dont know how to talk with others) (Hale, 2002). Whatever the
reasons for communication apprehension however, one thing is for certain - it doesnt make the speaker feel too good about him or herself. And when the speaker isnt feeling too
