glance, there are several differences between dialup and broadband that require users to consider which factors are most important in their daily Internet usage. The standard monthly fee for
56k dialup is approximately twenty-five dollars, with companies offering slightly varying rates depending upon certain promotions and the ability to undercut competition. Broadband DSL, on the other hand, can
range anywhere from forty to sixty dollars depending upon location and population served. It stands to reason how broadband in a metropolitan city is considerably cheaper - given the
vast number of companies available - than that which is located in a rural community. As important - and maybe even more so - as the cost in this
ever-faster global technology, however, is the speed with which dialup and broadband download Internet sites (Com-Cen, 2003). The time it takes to fully load a Web site can be either
interminably long or a blink of an eye depending upon the way in which one accesses the Internet. Because dialup is restricted to connection via phone lines, the time
factor is inherently slower than its wireless counterpart: By average, 4-5.6k per second subject to phone quality and Web site rate (Com-Cen, 2003). Broadband - "a new, high-speed medium
