The value of the implementation of TQM is the way that the bottom line is impacted as a result of increased customer satisfaction. In this we can see there
is commonality with the International Standards Organisation and the ISO awards. By looking at how ISO awards, such as ISO 900 and ISO 1400 are awarded we can clearly argue
that they are effective tools that can be used to purse TQM excellence and increase productivity and quality as well as provide an externally verified badge of excellence that may
also give a company an advantage. ISO 9000 along with ISO 14000 are more than a set standards, they are actually families
of standards that are recognised in over 130 countries (Compton et al, 2000). It has been noticed by many studies that when these are introduced there is what appears to
be a related increase in productivity. Each member country has a body that is a representative to the ISO, for example if we look at the United States this body
is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) (Compton et al, 2000). This body can be seen as being responsible to award the ISO marks.
