analyzing 50 years of research, that there is no discernable difference between organic food versus conventionally produced food (Wood and Bean, 2009). Needless
to say, this create a great deal of controversy - those who swore by organic foods pointed out that the analysis was absolutely incorrect, that there was something wrong. But
others pointed out, quite logically, that the FSAs results pretty much confirmed what much of the literature was stating, namely that there is no discernable nutritional difference between, say, an
organically grown apple and one that is grown conventionally. But there is more to organic farming and agriculture than nutritional values of foods.
An orange is still going to be packed with Vitamin C, whether its grown at the organic farm down the road or plucked from the vast orchards belonging to some
subsidiary of Sunkist. The difference, however, is how the fruit is grown. That local orchard is probably going to be offering fewer pesticides and wax than its conventionally grown counterpart.
This is tapping into the concerns that many parents are having about the foods their children are eating. Parents today are becoming
more concerned about their childrens nutrition. Is what their children getting in the local supermarket versus Whole Foods worse for them? Is there a place in the market for even
more specialty stores - and farmers markets - to provide parents with a choice of organic foods? The contention of this paper is
