snowstorms blanketed the majority of the northern U.S. and England experienced the second-coldest December since records were kept in the early 17th century (LePage, 2011).
The cold winter had those skeptical of global warming crowing that the Earth wasnt getting hotter, not at all. After all, how could Dallas, Texas, be experiencing its
coldest winter on record if the Earth was going through a "warming" phase? The answer here is that global warming is a reality.
Scientists have proven that the Earths oceans are on the rise, the polar caps are melting and that the atmosphere itself has heated up in the last century. What scientists
are not agreeing on, however, is whether the current global warming phase is occurring because this is what happens to this planet ever thousand years or so - or if
during the past century, humans have burned so much fossil fuel that the resulting CO2 emissions are, in a sense, creating our own greenhouse which is leading to some weird
weather - like colder temperatures during some winters. My contention is that there are many causes for global warming - not all of
them are manmade. I also believe that the increase of fossil fuel usage over the past 100 years has helped increase CO2 emissions. I believe global warming would have happened,
whether or not we were here. But I think our use of coal, oil and gas have helped hasten that trend. Literature Review
