history has been as volatile as any seen in the Middle East, it is hoped that Ireland will find peace and unity among her people eventually. Currently, it seems as
if this may happen as a recent referendum seemed a step in the right direction this year. High tech companies have begun to emerge as some of the leaders in
the global industries, and has begun to attract industry from other nations who find Ireland the perfect site for their own economic growth. None of this would have been possible,
one could argue, if it hadnt been for the vision of Eamon De Valera among others who had a dream for Irish independence and unity. Eamon de Valera was actually
born an American citizen. What makes this significant is that he would go on to become one of the most influential people in Irish politics that country has seen. So
how does a boy from New York end up in Limerick, Ireland? His is a long journey of expectations unrealized, and a loss of innocence about the way things were
run in Ireland. Perhaps it was his earliest experiences in America that led to his stubborn refusal to accept the Irish political system as it was. The Irish political machines,
to this day, still count him among their countrys greatest instigators of social change. Valera was born in 1882, but later ended up in Ireland when his father, who was
of Spanish descent, died. His mother, Irish, moved back to Limerick to be near her family. Valera was educated in Ireland and was a math teacher for a good while.
