Proportionality, or IP is false, yet its something that hasnt necessarily been challenged. Badwar claims hes ready to challenge the thesis itself, first by tying this thesis to the concept of justice. His first feeling is that the IP thesis tends to be based on what he considers a poor conception of justice. Second, he claims that Sandels use of friendship to argue in favor of IP is incorrect by noting that friendship (as it is a shared conception of "good" and "common identity") is at least as important as justice. But what, exactly, does the inverse proportionality thesis entail? Badwar notes that Sandels definition proposes IP as a family situation in which relationships tend to be governed by spontaneous affection - meaning justice is in evidence only to a small degree (as affection overtakes concept of justice).
