However, it can be said that those who wield the greatest power, who are in the greatest position to influence and evoke change do not always come from those who are visible militarily or who are authoritarian in any way. Nurses are often called upon to provide comfort where there seems to be none, patience in the face of adversity, and grace under fire. And to this end, then, they are the ones most likely to implement changes in the professional workplace. However, it would seem that change is slow in coming, especially where implementing new cutting-edge data and research are concerned. Why, one wonders, should this be? If the research is not going to be implemented, why do it at all? Lastly, what are some of the specific problems of application that need to be addressed so that new research findings can be utilized? The Womens Correctional Facility in Laurel, Maryland houses a small population of female offenders in comparison to some of the larger upstate facilities, yet, it has to be stated that the nurses and doctors who work there are as dedicated. Yet, it is a frustrating situation for many of the co-workers, who read of new techniques or theories as they pertain to the medical world, and it is as if the prison setting is the last place where these techniques will be implemented. Kerstin Adams, is the head R.N. at the Correctional Facility.
