about it. Nonetheless, insurance, particularly auto, property and casualty insurance, is a fairly strong industry because it is considered in this day and age to be a necessity rather
than a luxury. One insurance company, Progressive Insurance, has managed to make a success in this industry by pretty much doing everything
the opposite of what the more established companies have done. Under the direction of its rather flamboyant founder, Progressive Insurance has become known for its speedy response to clients
in need, not to mention its fast little cars that can be seen on the road, heading to auto accidents. In short, although Progressive isnt one of the "behemoths" of
the insurance industry, its name is becoming better and better known as time goes on. In this paper, we will attempt to
analyze a variety of factors to determine Progressives importance in the industry. We will give an industry overview and try to provide as much information about the competition as
we can in this regard. Once we have compared information and financial information, we can better recommend the direction in which Progressive can go in order to maintain and
even increased position on top. Although it can be difficult in this industry, the indications are there that Progressive will continue to succeed quite well in this industry, and will
continue to lead the way in many innovative ways of thinking. In comparing finances, well rely on five ratios: Loss Ratio; Expense
Ratio; Combined Ratio; Return on Equity; P/E Ratio and Premium-to-Surplus Ratio. The one downside of this report is that not all information was available to make a necessary apples-to-apples comparison.
