According to Michael Dell, founder of Dell Computers, one attribute of the innovative organization is the management of that organizations willingness and ability to choose strategic partners that can help numb "drive out cost, integrate technologies that provides significant business advantage or productivity gains and aggressively look for applications that can be shifted to more flexible and cost-effective platforms" (Dell, 2003). Nor is Dell the only one to suggest partnerships and outsourcing to help an organization think innovatively -- many experts support the idea of outsourcing so a company can better focus on its core competency, the thing that does the best. Another attribute of an organization that promotes innovation is an ability to motivate and maintain its workforce (Anonymous, 2003). this is especially important -- despite the slumping economy, attracting high-quality talent remains a priority for many organizations, particularly those in the health-care industry. Gerald F. ONeill, senior vice president and CFO of Holy Family Hospital and Medical Center in Massachusetts has managed to creatively overcome labor shortage through a variety of innovative programs (Anonymous, 2003). For one thing, the medical center has developed a program with a local community college by which the hospitals patient care assistants attend nursing classes, work twenty-four hours a week at the hospital and are paid for a 40-hour week (Anonymous, 2003). in addition, this innovative medical center has worked to understand and accommodate patient complaints and concerns during the labor shortage (Anonymous, 2003).
