the might of the invading principality overcomes the weaker culture and as such has an influence from the beginning. Such changes give rise to a new history and the political
direction of a country. This would be the case with India and one of its favored sons, Gandhi. India has always known struggle. Before the English even considered conquering
its vast lands, Indias people were a collection of multinational immigrants. What this served to do, then was to bring a multicultural demographic which was continually striving for dominance within
its own boundaries. The various religions of the pre-British days caused a great deal of the turmoil. Tolerance on the one hand, combined with a desire to evangelize and
convert brought many of the various religions into conflict with one another. The country, divided against itself, fragmented, left the door open for another principality to seize control. And that
is just what happened. Great Britain came into India and found a culture which was completely different from their own. Caste systems which were closely tied into the dominant religion
forbade certain people to do certain jobs or tasks. This made it difficult for the British to assign work duties to their new Indian "friends". There were several levels to
the caste system at the time. There are basically four divisions to the caste system. At the top of the group are the Priests and highly educated men. Next there
are the warriors and rulers. Farmers and Merchants follow closely behind, with the peasants and paid laborers attaining the next level down. At the very bottom of the rung were
the untouchables. Within these caste systems one was narrowly focused into following certain rules, regulations and rituals. One could not marry out of ones caste system, nor could one
