that people must depend on their own selves, but the first line does suggest that perhaps the world is not properly attending to the needs of children. If in fact,
the world of the future will see those born today as its leaders, people ought to start paying attention. The sentiment that "children are the future" is something that
is quite obvious. Unless the world ends, the children of today will run it. This is virtue of the fact that they are born on this planet and in a
couple of decades will themselves be adults. They will be the doctors and lawyers and politicians of 2025. Whitney Houston is not the only one to sing about this concept.
In fact, the Simon and Garfunkel (2007) song The Sounds of Silence contains the following line: "... the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement
halls." The lyrics of each of these songs to come from past decades suggest that the things the children do-the graffiti, the abuse, the loneliness-will manifest as something that
is a part and parcel of the future. For instance, children are raised today very differently than they had been in the past and each successive generation projects shades of
the generation with which they were raised. Examples to prove that the children are the future come from the past. When the greatest generation was raised, they were born during
and shortly after World War I. They were thus in a very patriotic environment and were therefore somewhat enthusiastic about going to war when WWII erupted. The boomers on the
