The never-ending quest for global peace represents a dichotomy of approach: In order to achieve peace, people must die for it to become a reality. Moving forward into the twenty-first century finds the quest for global peace at a crossroads never before experienced in the history of the world; for it ever to occur, there must be a comprehensive move from all global communities toward nonviolent settlements of international disputes. Thoreau (1998) had it right when he left civilizations shortcomings behind and went to live amid the serenity of nature. While this particular approach to attaining global peace appeals to quite a large number of people wholly fed up with the manner by which their species has created such a derogatory reputation for itself, it does not represent a prudent option in which the entire world could participate. It does, however, expose a critical element that has lost its presence in mankinds contemporary existence that serves to soften the way people interact.
