problems that can cause minor cases of hypothermia, for the most part hypothermia occurs due to cold temperatures encountered by and individual. And, like many conditions, there are varying levels
of hypothermia. The following paper examines hypothermia and the effects of warming a patient as it relates to blood pressure. The condition of the hypothermia examined is the extreme form
which is generally induced by a traumatic event of exposure. Hypothermia and Blood Pressure For the most part a person maintains a body temperature that can range from
97?F (36.1?C) to 100?F (37.8?C) (Definition: Hypothermia, 2005). When the body temperature drops to around 94? F hypothermia takes place. The problems that occur with hypothermia in its traumatic
cases, are associated with the fact that when the temperature of the body is low all messages from the brain or through the brain travel much slower than normal where
the nervous system is concerned (Merck, 2005). "Abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) may occur. The heart also slows down, and blood pressure falls" (Merck, 2005). And, if the temperature of the
body falls to below 86? F it is likely that all organs will stop working and death will take place (Merck, 2005). Blood pressure, as can be seen, is
a serious concern for the lower it is the more likely the body is to stop working all together. In addition, it is incredibly important that a person suffering from
a bad case of hypothermia not be warmed up quickly or the blood pressure can adversely react and ultimately cause death. For example, "rapid warming can sometimes increase the risk
of very low blood pressure (shock) or life-threatening abnormal heart rhythms" (Merck, 2005). But, on the other hand, rapid warming is also called for sometimes when the body temperature is
