a long history and in order to better understand its capabilities, it is important to understand those who have contributed to its overall platform and whose ideas are now included
in the paradigm upon which hypnotherapy is based. Freud, Jung, and Adler are all noted psycho-analysts who very significantly impacted hypnotherapy and its relation and benefit to the
patient. It is therefore of primary concern to understand how these men shaped the basis of hypnotherapy and the way in which it is executed today. Hypnosis
Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years and dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece (Knight, 2002). Some speculate that the Bible even
refers to hypnosis in several different passages but modern hypnosis is mostly the work of a Viennese doctor named Franz Anton Mesmer who lived during the late 1700s (Knight, 2002).
Mesmer intrigued the people but outraged the medical community with his beliefs regarding hypnosis (Knight, 2002). Mesmers methods involved mostly the use of magnets (Knight, 2002).
