Many retailers (and former retailers) feel that they’ve been ravaged by the hurricane called Wal-Mart; otherwise there appears to be no connection between the two. Each, however, provides a form of definition of evolution. One system is quite natural while the other began as wholly artificial. definition of evolution. One system is quite natural while the other began as wholly artificial. Each, however, takes on a life of its own and affects everything around
it. A Natural System Warm sun on the surface of all bodies of water but particularly the ocean causes water to evaporate from
the surface and drift upward into higher levels of the atmosphere. Individual molecules are released through plant transpiration - the process of bringing water from the soil to the
upper reaches of the plant resulting in release into the atmosphere - and those molecules drift upward as well. Earths atmosphere never holds more than a fraction of one
percent of the earths water, and nearly all originates with evaporation from the oceans. These individual molecules of water float around in the
atmosphere, seemingly aimlessly. They cool as they rise into the cooler areas away from the warm ocean, however, coming together to form droplets of water. As in Briggs
and Peats (2000) river vortex example, they meet points of bifurcation requiring that they divert course in one direction or another. As they have an affinity for each other,
they band together and so form rain clouds. As increasing numbers band together, water begins falling to the earths surface - back into the ocean - as rain.
