of causation. And, while many cannot necessarily be proven or disprove, theorists and philosophers continue to examine the theories of Hume. In the following paper we present an examination of
Humes accounts of causal necessity, or the nature of causation, by examining the arguments of others. The material presented is only offered as a tutorial for the students
Causal Necessity (Nature of Causation) One author presents us with intriguing and enlightening looks into Humes theories focusing on his Treatise and Enquiry. The author states that "In both works
Hume starts with his arguments for the doctrine of necessity (THN, pp.399-407; EHU, pp.82-94). It is here, in arguing the case for determinism, that Hume employs his new account of
the idea of causal necessity" (Anonymous Hume on Liberty and Necessity, 2002; 21libnec.htm). The author points out that "Hume uses his account of causation to argue that determinism is
true of actions as well as other events, not in order to argue that determinism is compatible with actions being freely performed and justly subject to moral appraisal. In this
respect his procedure is exactly the same in the Enquiry as in the Treatise" (Anonymous Hume on Liberty and Necessity, 2002; 21libnec.htm). However, the author points out that while
