would ever find themselves in such a predicament. The traditional nuclear family that sees children and two parents might see a son murder his father, but marrying his mother would
be against the law. It would be an impossibility, no matter what the prediction, that something so ridiculous would occur. However, in the case of Oedipus, there are extenuating circumstances.
Oedipus is adopted. He grows up not knowing who his real mother and father are, and as fate would have it, he does end up fulfilling the prediction. An
interesting part of the work is when Oedipus speaks to others investigating the crime. Of course, he is the murderer, but when confronted, he is able to create a sense
that it was certainly not he who had done such a thing. At the same time, he does not try to cover his tracks as for much of the time
he does not even know that he is the murderer they are looking for. He did murder someone in the past, but he did not realize whom he had killed.
On some level, Oedipus Rex is a rather evil man. Anyone who could take the life of another human being must be thought of in a negative light. On the
other hand, Oedipus Rex is also someone who is seemingly trying to help to find the true murderer of the King. In fact, he promises the people he would take
care of the investigation and he fulfills the obligation. It is interesting to note that the idea that the king was killed by a number of men, instead of
just one man, is something that was recounted by eyewitnesses, and something that Oedipus accepts early on (Miller 230). Then, when Oedipus actually speaks about the murder, he agrees that
