total equality and enlightenment in relationship to racial conditions has not really been fully realized. However, he was also apparently a very strong advocate of general human rights as they
involved social welfare and the economic conditions of people. The following paper examines this side of Martin Luther King Jr. and the legacy left in this particular field of study.
Human Rights and Social Welfare: Martin Luther King Jr. According to one particular author "Usually overlooked by liberals and conservatives alike is Dr. Kings fight for economic justice
for poor Americans, especially for poor people of color" (New York Amsterdam News, 2003). In fact he had written a book, his last book, titled "Where Do We Go From
Here: Chaos or Community" wherein he attacked the problems concerning the economic divide that existed, and exists, in the nation between the very wealthy and the poor and how the
problems were increasing in intensity (New York Amsterdam News, 2003). According to this author this book, this premise, was his reason for making plans on his Poor Peoples Campaign prior
to his assassination (New York Amsterdam News, 2003). "Dr. King understood that civil rights meant more than the right to vote or buy a house in any neighborhood. When he
was assassinated in Memphis, he was lending his support to a strike by city garbage collectors who were fighting for decent wages and benefits, similar to the struggle we see
