it is underdeveloped countries that are guilty of much of the human rights violations. However, the United States is essentially just as guilty of human right violations as many other
nations in the world. The following paper examines how the United States is in violation of human rights as it involves their imprisonment of children, children often under the age
of 16, in Guatanamo Bay. The paper examines how in many nations children are just as involved in political and violent causes as adults, unlike the United States, but that
this does not mean they should be imprisoned like adults in camps such as Guatanamo Bay, nor should they be mistreated, which is clearly part of what is going on.
Children at Guatanamo Bay Back in 2003 the Bush administration admitted to imprisoning children who were under the age of 16 in the military prison often referred to
as Guatanamo Bay, because that is the city of location in Cuba (Phillips, 2003). These prisoners, some having been in the prison for more than a year, are given the
title of "enemy combatants" (Phillips, 2003). They are interrogated like adults because it is believed they may well be connected to Afghanistans Taliban or linked to Al Qaeda (Phillips, 2003).
As seems to be the case with most, if not all, of the other prisoners in Gautanamo Bay the children have not
actually been charged with any crime and they have not been given any option in terms of gaining any legal counsel (Phillips, 2003). They have no idea when they will
be released from the prison and they are unsure when, or if, they will ever seen their homeland or their family again (Phillips, 2003). Another author notes the following: "None
