Introduction As the relationship between workers and their work has evolved, so have the metaphors we use to describe
how people view their jobs, and how companies view their employees -- and how this affects the worker population -- in general. This evolution is not just a change
in terminology. Rather, it reflects fundamental shifts in the way we think and speak about our working life. The terms, human resources and human capital epitomize this evolution and
both refer to personnel. In fact many corporate experts view the terms as virtually synonymous (Davenport, 1999 and See Also Becker, 2001). However, for the purposes of this
essay human resources, (with respect to its role in the management of the corporate work force) will be the focus. The human resources
of a nation are the most significant determinants of its strength and future success in the global market. Our societys ability to successfully compete with its domestic and international neighbors
rests predominantly on the abilities of its citizenry. How this citizenry effectively facilitates/ augments the smooth operations of its corporate world is indisputably linked with this. Therefore, human
resources management must take into consideration and stay atop of all the tangible and intangible assets that people bring to their jobs. In todays fast paced modern society - wherein
