finding and hiring the right people for the right job function. No organization can succeed without talented, motivated, and excited workers at all levels of he organizational hierarchy. The world
has changed since these functions were identified and while human resource departments are still responsible for these functions, others have been added. In some organizations, the structure of the human
resource departments has even been changed to include human resource managers in the companys strategic planning process. In todays work setting, human resource professionals are faced with many different challenges
that did not exist even 30 years ago. We now live in a global society and companies compete in a global marketplace. Each organization now faces the challenge of having
significant diversity among its employees. And, technology has taken over. Companies who do not use advanced information technology and other technological tools will not win in the marketplace. Human resource
departments have become more strategic in their outlook and planning. Greer explained that strategic human resources are "the effective application of the organizations human resources to accomplish the organizations overall
strategies" (Greer, 2001). HRVS (2007) carried this thought further when it wrote: "Every organization begins with a mission or reason for being that guides the activities of the organization." Organizations
spend a great deal of time, money and other resources to develop strategic plans so that they will accomplish their mission and objectives and they allocate funds to achieve their
