work life (QWL) (2001). This is equated with proper supervision, favorable working conditions, satisfactory pay and benefits, and interesting, challenging, and rewarding work (2001). High quality is accomplished through an
employee relations philosophy that fosters QWL efforts in order to give workers greater opportunities and to ensure overall effectiveness (2001). In other words, proactive managers and HR departments are
able to find ways to empower employees and to get them more involved in decision-making processes (2001). The reason for the suggestion is that studies have shown that when
employees are happy and satisfied in the workplace, they will often be more motivated, enjoy greater productivity, and also have positive self-esteem and improved morale (2001). One problem is that
workers have a hard time dealing with family and work responsibilities (2001). The author is correct in pointing these things out. In todays world, it seems that people do
have a more difficult time of dealing with problems in their personal lives due to changes in family structures and economic times that mandate all adults work. The old paradigm
where there is a stay at home mom is no longer relevant. By and large, workers must take care of their families and family situations are more demanding. The author
does note some of these new models and mentions the advent of the single parent home and the dual income family (Champion-Hughes, 2001). The author suggests that as part of
