Work Visas, and other issues related to immigration. Acting as the human resource manager in an immigration law firm is an immensely complex job. The office itself will work with individuals, companies, and other agencies, each of which has its own rules and regulations. The human resource manager will need to learn many of these laws if that professional is to be effective. The human resource manager must have a formal education in human resources or related field. Before reaching the level of manager, this professional should have at least a few years of experience. Must be proficient in applicable laws, project administration, and operations. The manager must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent time management skills are crucial (Troutman Sanders LLP, 2012). This is a complex job and the manager needs to have some knowledge of immigration laws. Knowledge can be gained through seminars as well as from the attorney advising the manager. One aspect of the complexity of this job is the many different acronyms and form numbers that must be memorized. The attorney needs to be able to speak to the HR manager in a type of shorthand, such as those acronyms. The responsibilities for all human resource managers include but are not limited to: directing staff in organizational structure, payroll and compensation plans and administration, assigning staff, maintain the employee database, employee relations, orientation/training/development, and developing policies and procedures. The HR manager also provides support to management and work collaboratively with different groups (Troutman Sanders LLP, 2012).
