so they make sure that salary is competitive with other organizations and offer good benefits packages. To some extent, the public sector competes. Within the public sector is the military,
but the military is a different animal. Unlike most civil service jobs where there is little in terms of expectation, a mediocre salary, and excellent chances for retention, the military
is perhaps the reverse. Within the confines of the military, excellent performance is expected. Military personnel must obey all orders and perform in a manner that goes above and beyond
acceptable performance in other industries. The pay is generally high for untrained labor. Young people who join the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines are often given good pay, bonuses,
excellent benefits and often money to get a good education. Also, the military recruit gets a lot for the trade off in terms of only several years time. Of course,
the military "owns" the recruit for that short period of time. The trade off for the excellent salary and benefits package is risk as military life is dangerous, and also,
the inability to change ones mind. This is a contractual agreement, unlike a public sector job. Clearly, the differences in HR management is warranted, but upon careful examination there are
more similarities in military HR and private sector HR than one might think. First, a look at HR in general is appropriate. II. Human Resource Management
