quickly to new customer demands (Chan, 2007). Internally, companies must also be people-focused if productivity and quality are both going to be high (Chan, 2007). The human resource manager must
adapt to all these changes if that department is going to be a strategic partner in the organization (Chan, 2007). The four major areas of management are planning, organizing, leading
and controlling. These same areas of responsibility must be fulfilled by the human resource manager. Each can be applied to any aspect of this experts job. Three issues will be
discussed, diversity, motivation and executive compensation. Diversity is a much broader category than most people think. When diversity is mentioned, most think of racial and ethnic issues but, instead,
diversity includes age, gender, education background, religious beliefs, culture, geographic location, work experience, sexual orientation, religious affiliation and other things on top of nationality, race and ethnicity. The organization needs
to have the capacity to manage the diverse workforce we see today (Chan, 2007). This requires planning and organizing but when performed successfully, the diverse workforce will bring more innovation
and creativity to the company (Chan, 2007). Having a diverse workforce makes good business sense. Prince (2005) said that corporate diversity gives the company the opportunity to have the
top talent in the industry on staff. There are a lot of barriers to having a successful productive diverse workforce, including ethnocentrism and stereotyping and it requires everyone to change
