with controversy. Is it human nature to fight or be peace loving creatures? While religion tells the world that people are good inside, it is hard to fathom as looking
at the world and seeing the horrors of war, murderous rampages and street fighting, one sees another story. In the world, there is marital discord, sibling rivalry and friendly competition,
all of which is construed as somewhat normal. What is human nature then? There are larger philosophical questions that go not only to human personality, and behavior, but also to
religious dictates. Religion by and large tends to have a view about human behavior and it pays to explore church teachings. In discerning just what Soren Kierkegaards ideas on
human nature are, it also pays to look at his ideas about religion. This philosopher had been quite vocal on his concepts regarding religion. His scathing critique of church
culture had been based not on his ideas about how the world is changing, but rather, on the churchs shortcomings against what he called original Christianity (Galli, 2002).
In a typical passage, he asks: "How many are able to say they are truly Christians in the New Testament sense, or that their lives are even close to
resembling those of the first disciples?" (as qtd. in Galli, 2002, p.62). He poses a good question. While Kierkegaard lived in the early part of the nineteenth century, his ideas
are valid in contemporary times. It is true that today, many people do not live their lives as Christians ought according to the bible. Many people simply go to church
