The following paper examines the human failing that is forever prevalent in Millers story. Human Failing: Millers The Crucible Arthur Millers play is filled with human emotion, deception, fear, hysteria, desires, and numerous other human emotions and actions. One author notes that, "The Crucible is a play about human nature, about how the best intentions can pave a road to hell, and about how easy it is to look the other way" (The MIT Community Players Present). It is a story that involves many different players, and all of them are on one kind of journey or another. Some become wiser, but they all, in one way or another, are privy to their own desires. There is the character of John Proctor, a man who is relatively simple, in Puritan times, yet a man who has been cheating on his wife with a younger woman, or girl. When Abigail, his female interest, wants more from him he has decided that what he is doing is wrong and she essentially decides that she will seek revenge on him and the whole town ultimately. Abigail is the main character and she is the one who instigates, or illuminates, the behaviors of all other people. It begins when she and other girls were in the woods dancing naked and playing at some sort of witchcraft. The girls ultimately all get very worried they will be found out and at one point one of the girls, when she is alone with Abigail, screams at her, "You drank a charm to kill John Proctors wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody ...
