of Jims fatherly inclinations towards Huck. This is shown in the fact that Jim tells Huck not to look at the corpse, because the sight of the dead face is
just "too gashly", and he wishes to protect Huck from it (Twain 1912, p. 69). This is particularly relevant because, as the reader eventually finds out, the dead body is
actually Hucks father, and the contrast between this totally insufficient and useless paternal figure and Jims true concern for Huck serves to highlight Jims fundamental humanity. 3.) (Chapter
10) What bad luck happens to Huck and Jim? Why is it Hucks fault? Bad luck befalls Huck and Jim in chapter 10 when Huck plays a joke on
Jim that ends in Jim being bitten by a rattlesnake; a wound that is often fatal. It can be said to be Hucks fault in two key ways. Practically speaking,
Huck is at fault because he put the dead snake in Jims bed that eventually attracted the living mate. However, the bad luck can also be attributed to Huck because
the previous day he had handled the skin of a dead snake, an act which Jim warned him would bring ruin upon them. This serves to demonstrate not only Hucks
