of subject matter and while he was not necessarily considered to be a filmmaker who had powerful imagery like Hitchcock, his films were generally great successes. Interestingly enough, his childhood
and early adult years do not offer and image of one who would be so successful in this particular business. The following paper provides a look at his childhood and
early adult years. Howard Hawks Howard Hawks was born, in 1896, into a very wealthy family and was considered to be quite spoiled and a less than ambitious
or successful student. He was born into a family, on both sides, that came from good hardworking money, and was primarily a young man who was clearly used to getting
whatever he wanted, and being able to do whatever he wanted (Kaplan). An interesting aspect of his childhood, and early adult years, involves religion. His mother apparently became almost
a fanatical Christian Science follower, even going so far as to have her fathers remains dug up, cremated, and then dumped into a river where they were found years later
in their original urn (Adherents.com). Such information would indicate, or suggest, perhaps, that Hawks would be one who was strongly affected, negatively or positively, by religion and that therefore some
of that would come out in his work. The truth, however, is that his films never held any true kind of message of social or religious commentary, except perhaps his
very first film, which was "The Road to Glory" and would be the only film that suggested Hawks was involved in anything more than mere film entertainment (Adherents.com).
Howard was sent to schools and it was not until he was a bit older that he started to study one thing in particular.
