This paper describes several aspects of the religion. Discussion One of the most important aspects of Hinduism is the appearance of the temple itself, which has its roots in ancient
Indian history. Ancient Indian thinking divides history into four distinct periods: "Krta, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali" (The Hindu temple, 2007). The Krta was a "golden age," a time "characterized by
righteousness" in which everyone belonged to one caste, and "there was only one god who lived amongst the humans as one of them" (The Hindu temple, 2007). In the Treta,
knowledge was most important, righteousness declined and gods were scarce (The Hindu temple, 2007). In the third division, Dvapara, righteousness declined again and misery, disease and the caste system came
into being (The Hindu temple, 2007). Finally, Kali is the present age of mankind; it is believed to have begun in approximately 3102 BC (The Hindu temple, 2007). In this
present age, righteousness is very scarce, sacrifice and worship are gone, and the age is one of "anger, lust, passion, pride and discord," and we are preoccupied with material things
(The Hindu temple, 2007). This is important because it is against this background of diminishing righteousness and declining worship that the first temples appear; they come into being in the
