a million immigrants every year, who have come from around the world to live in the United States, take the important step of making their new home their official nationality
by becoming naturalized U.S. citizens (Griswold, 2011). This step is the end point in a long process, as shifting ones identity and sense of association with ones homeland to that
of a new country cannot be accomplished quickly. Analysis of this process shows that it has three major components, which are becoming accustomed to American culture, that is, fitting in,
establishing social and economic connections; learning the history and political background of American culture; and, then, completing the naturalization forms, test, and taking the pledge of allegiance. The following analysis
addresses each of these steps and the first step to becoming an American is to become accustomed to US culture. Every culture is different. For example, in some cultures people
barter in regards to the price of products, while in others, whatever the price tag says is a solid price and is not negotiable. There are a hundreds of details
such as this, which include the understood rules of public etiquette. While immigrants are no longer pressured to thoroughly assimilate into American society, losing their own distinctive cultural and ethnic
