right way, knowing how to use systems of processes and follow company procedures. However, there are also other less visible purposes in training, these include the development and communication of
company culture and values, the creation of social links and the development of internal relationships as well as communications by the employer of the employee of the way the employees
are valued. When assessing training needs all of these elements need to be considered. The starting point is to audit the current situation (Huczyniski and Buchanan, 2003). This will
start wit an assessment of the desire situation, what it is the company wants to be an how it s seeking to achieve this, the systems that are meant to
be in place and the goals that have been set as training does not only need to incorporate the current needs, but also plan for any future changes (Huczyniski and
Buchanan, 2003). The next stage is then to assess the current level of skills and competence and identify areas were there are potential shortfalls, For example, if this was a
call centre and the goal of the company is to answer calls in less that 1 minute and the deal with calls within 3 minutes. If these targets are being
missed then the shortfall may be investigated. The shortfall itself may not automatically indicate a training needs, but to assess the cause of the failure needs to be examined. It
may be that the call centre staff are not sufficiently competent in their skills so need further training on handling calls or using the systems that support the calls. If
