article and answer questions about it, the student first has to understand it. That means the first thing to do is a "close reading" of the subject matter, meaning that
the student cannot just skim the text but has to pay close attention to it. Its probably best to read it through once, fairly quickly, then go back and read
it again more slowly, paraphrasing each paragraph individually. Thats not to say that the student will comment on each paragraph, but breaking it down is probably the easiest way to
tackle it. Its also helpful for the student to have the questions in mind as he reads the article, so that he can pick out the answers as he goes,
without having to go back later and try and find the material. In this case, the questions revolve around the company induction program. The first thing a careful reader would
notice is that the article is full of grammatical, syntactical and spelling errors such that its amazing it ever got published. Be that as it may, the paraphrasing will reflect
the content, though the student might want to mention that the piece is badly written. The article discusses Ms. Gorton, an administrator who was promoted to a managerial post. Ms.
Gorton will need to learn new ways of thinking and new ways of relating to those who were her colleagues but whom she will now be supervising. She needs to
