Scandinavians began to move a lot from the eighth century on and that they went up rivers and sheltered large families (1993). They tried to create a civilization that would
go from Kiev to Greenland (1993). The Norwegians actually created colonies but the Swedes were more entrenched in trade (1993). In other words, one group was more set on settling
down while the other was more inclined to move about and explore uncharted territory. They were also more inclined to profit from their adventures. Of course, no one people "had
a monopoly" on any one of these themes (1993). During the time period, people from all over the world would end up trading or settling. Certainly, the people were
moving about. They were on the move in those days as there was a lot of unsettled land and adventures on the horizon. Those who took part in such
migrations--inclusive of but not limited to the Scandinavians--are usually referred to as Vikings (Roberts, 1993). It is important to keep in mind that while all Vikings were Norse, it does
not follow that all Norsemen are Vikings ("The Vikings," 2005). It appears that the Vikings would just move around but they were not really gypsies or vagabonds. They settled. In
fact, they are most known for colonization (Roberts, 1993). This may appear to be surprising, but the truth is that these adventurous people would settle areas that are significant in
the exploration of European history. For example, the Vikings settled Dublin and it became a trading-post (1993). One can see that the brilliance of settling down in a place and
creating a trade mentality served several goals embraced by the Vikings. They wanted to travel and make money, but they wanted to create civilizations too. Colonization and the incorporation of
