A 9 page paper examining one of the many reasons why the North won the War in the United States. There are many reasons why this war was won by the North and perhaps the most important factor in the defeat of the South was due to the intelligence of Sherman. He gained full force and began a campaign for a march when the war looked to be at its worst. He used a great military understanding that some believe was a mark of true genius. His efforts to eliminate supplies and weapons of the South brought a long war to an end and saved many lives as a result. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

The Civil War of America was one of the longest most horrid wars of our time. It ravaged the land and the people
who lived on it. It challenged ideas and long held beliefs. And in comparison to all other wars of our time it took the most lives and did the most
damage. There are many reasons why this war, or any war, is won. Perhaps there is not as many men on one side as there is on another, maybe there
is less funding, perhaps there are more powerful people with stronger ideals on the winning side, often there is not enough food or supplies for one side to survive for
long, maybe the losing side does not fight as well or as wholeheartedly as the winning side, and sometimes it comes down to such simple matters as weather conditions. There
are many complicated and inconceivable reasons why wars are won or lost. In the case of the Civil War this is also true.
There are many theories and conjectures as to why the North won and the South lost. There are even individuals alive today who still hold true to the ideal
of the South and keep the battle raging in their own life. Putting aside the reality of today and the myriad of possibilities from the past one truth holds fast.
The truth is that aside from many other reasons for the success of the North one main truth that stand out is the truth that General William Tecumseh Sherman was
