they are less valuable in the job market. In part, this is because it is less expensive for firms to hire younger workers, but it is also partially due to
the fact that people do not value the opinions of older individuals. Most companies target young populations in terms of marketing and so, when people age, they are often looked
at as a burden. There are many middle aged and young people who have elderly parents and treat them well. While that is the case, that does not meant they
are valued and respected. Most young people do not seek the advice of these experienced human beings, vying instead for peer advice or the opinions of younger counselors, doctors, lawyers
and bankers. Older people are sometimes called "dinosaurs" because youth is valued in America. That said, there are other cultures that treat the elderly much more harshly and elder abuse
is rampant in these areas. On the other hand, there are in fact societies that treat the elderly with reverence. It is well known that in Asian countries, as
well as Asian communities in the United States, the elderly are treated with respect. Yet, there are many cultures throughout the world, and each seems to have certain customs as
it respects the elderly. In evaluating the elderly in the United States, it helps to compare the group with other cultures. For purposes of comparison, the Tiwi of Northern
