a given situation? How does honesty enter the picture? Many questions abound when it comes to ethics and it infiltrates many areas of life, including the business environment. In
a sense, the idea that ethics enter business to some extent seems odd. Can a business really be equated with ethical action? After all, the purpose of a "for profit"
organization is to make profit, and this usually circumvents other goals. That said, todays corporation is becoming more and more responsible. And also, leaders are becoming more cognizant of spiritual
and idealistic goals for corporations. Loehr & Schwartz (2003) observe: "The corporate body has a strong or weak spiritual pulse reflecting its capacity for honesty, integrity, commitment and conviction" (p.
204). There is a sense that ethics are important to business. First, what are ethics? In the realm of philosophy, ethics go to what is good or what
is the right thing to do, and within the Western tradition, there is something called moral philosophy ("Ethics," 2006). Within the realm of philosophy there is much attention to ethics
and ides about right and wrong. For example, there is something called the categorical imperative, where it is thought that moral rules must meet a litmus test. This is just
one example of an ethical system. There are many other ways to look at the topic. In implementing a code of ethics, for personal use, or for use by
members of an organization, various ideas should be explored. In developing a personal ethical code, Brockett, Galbraith, Hiemstra, Wickman & Zinn (2006) provide several questions that should be answered by
