psychology, learning theory, engineering technology, and the audiovisual fields in the middle of the twentieth century" (p.527). Clearly, with a revolution in technology at the end of the twentieth century,
education must catch up. The school systems are notoriously behind the times and one sees teachers grading papers by hand and sending out mail to parents that could be posted
on the Internet instead. With worries about privacy and legalities, many school systems have remained in the dark, but when it comes to the interdisciplinary approach in particular, it seems
that creating a systems design with certain programs can enhance learning. XML is something that has stood out as a possible bridge to creating stellar learning environments. The use of
XML to create e-learning materials is one solution to overcoming challenges of both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary learning. In effect, the use of technology to bolster learning, and particularly interdisciplinary and
multidisciplinary learning, is an idea whose time has come. Today, with new technology and particularly with the advent of XML, this goal is achievable. First, it pays to define and
explore the types of learning in question. Interdisciplinary learning refers to the idea of "organizing curricular disciplines so that they share a common concept focus" (Reksten , 2000, p.26).
On the other hand, multidisciplinary learning lacks a concept focus but "relate to facts and activities across subject areas to common topics..." (Reksten , 2000,p.26). Each paradigm makes use of
different ways to order material so that the students will better remember the information. For example, does it pay to use the theme of money and for each fictitious story
read, evaluate the characters social status? One can see that analyzing literature using a common theme can drill a subject into the heads of students, but there are limitations to
