those books are discussed in this essay: "Unconscious Conspiracy: Why Leaders Cant Lead" (1978) by Warren Bennis, "Leaders: The Strategies for Taking Charge" (1985) by Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus,
and "The Leadership Challenge" (1987) by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. The lessons in these books will provide the principal or a principal in training with a great deal of
information on leadership that is easily translated to education. Bennis & Nanus The Unconscious Conspiracy Warren Bennis initially wrote "Unconscious Conspiracy: Why Leaders Cant Lead" in 1978. In this
book, he focused on colleges and universities and explained why they were failing. He condemned the lack of creativity among university administrators. He acknowledged that the literature suggests there are
a lot of good managers but not good leaders in universities (Bennis, 1978), In 1998, he wrote "Why Leaders Cant Lead: The Conspiracy Continues." In between, in 1985, Bennis
co-authored "Leaders: The Strategies for Taking Charge" with Burt Nanus. This last title focused on the principles every leader should know. Bennis promotes the premise that leadership can be learned.
Most academics promote the premise that one is born with leadership ability or not but management can be taught. When he discusses the Unconscious Conspiracy, Bennis is referring to all
the obstacles leaders face when trying to lead. There will always be people trying to sabotage the leaders, the leaders vision, and/or the leaders plans, for instance. But there many
