Essay / Research Paper Abstract

3 pages in length. The biological, psychological and sociological systems that comprise an individual's life are the specific aspects that determine how a person develops in both an emotional and mental capacity. Studies that have followed the progression of twins raised by different families find a common denominator of environmental and genetic components that ultimately shape each individual's interests, emotions, biases and abilities. The extent to which biological, psychological and sociological systems impact the way in which a person evolves into himself is both grand and far-reaching; that being a product of one's environment is the primary key to that individual's overall character speaks to the powerful influence of such macro systems. As mentioned, studying twins separated at birth has provided significant insight to the extent of how much biology actually shapes a persons development. Even when each twin is brought up in entirely different home environments, they still harbor similar traits that reflect the inescapable impact of genetic tendency. As Harris (2002) points out, genes are responsible for guiding a persons inclinations - such as whether they will be smart, outgoing, artistic, athletic or mentally balanced - while environment is the conduit to either suppressing or augmenting these inherent traits.
